Oriental Spoon @ Sooka Sentral

I remember when i first started working in Synovate. i am still very free and what i do was browsing all the food blogs on earth. and i came to read kampongboycitigal's post about Oriental Spoon. and i showed it to my colleague. My colleague was very impressed with the Hedgehog look-a-like bun. So we decided to pay them a visit.

Black Sesame Bun

I have tried a similar kind of bun in Shanghai Ding on the same stretch of shophouses housing the new HSBC Queensbay Branch. It was way MUCH better and it's filled with lotus paste. The reason why i found them better was the black sesame bun shown above doesn't taste like the normal black sesame paste and it has a weird smell. Undesribeable, unimaginable normal black sesame paste will taste like. It is just weird. Rating? Zero/Five

I don't exactly know the name of this dish above. It does taste like char siew pastry but it's not. The filling is sweet and nice when it is served hot. I tried it after it was on the table for some time and it was not as good. Rating? Two/Five

Lotus Leaf Rice
This dish doesn't leave me with a good memory. Hence, this is just a normal Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice. Not fragrant or anything. Rating? Two/Five

Steamed rice rolls with sweet corn and minced chickenThe Cheong Fun is special because it's not the ordinary prawn or char siew type of Cheong fun we usually savour. I'll give a credit to this dish for their Chilli Paste that goes well with it. Rating? Three/Five.

Fried Radish CakeThis is really good. Soft and tender and fragrant with the Bonito Flakes topping. Heaps. Rating? Four/Five.

Steamed Prawn Dumplings or "Har Kau"

Fresh succulent prawn. Rating? Three/Five
Lotus Root Dessert
I like this very much. Simple yet special. Simple in taste and special in presentation. They stuffed glutinuous rice in between the holes in the roots. Do you see? Rating? Four/Five

Water Chestnut Dessert I like this dessert but when it was served it wasn't chill enough. or is it supposed to be served warm? Well it wasn't too swet and just nice. Rating? Three/Five

Char Siew Pau "Halal"

This is made from chicken and it doesn't taste as good as the pork char siew we get. Rating? Two/Five

Egg Tart

I must stress how much technology these days affect photography. I'm not praising myself for having a good camera or photo shooting skills but if you look at the pictures above you would think that the food must be really really nice. Especially for this Egg Tart. With a naked eye i bet you can judge it's not good. Not to mention to even pop into your mouth. But via this shot it does look tempting. But the truth is not impressive. Rating One/Five.

For the Price of MYR18.80++ for the amount of food above is reasonable. Quality wise they are Good. But i reckon they could be better.

Generally none of us like the dim sum because they not as good as being published on most blogs. We've had better ones before. It's worth a try for the price you pay.

Shillin Snacks @ The Gardens Mall

Oyster Mee Sua MYR5
The thing about this oyster mee sua is that they encourage you NOT to use the chopstick. Of course you can take if you like but there will be a kind note at the counter that the locals in Taiwan eat them using the spoon. And so we all wanted to try to eat like a local and refused to take the chopstick and ended up finding it so difficult to eat with a spoon. But we all made it.

Happy Rice Box Set with your choice of drink MYR9

Well if you like to order just the Yummy Deep Fried Chicken. It is priced at MYR6 per piece.

Sushi Zanmai @ The Gardens Mid Valley

a week after my first visit to the horrigible service Sushi Zanmai in 1-Utama, giving it a 2nd chance we hop into The Gardens branch in Mid Valley.

It's located on the 3rd floor, just next to The Borders bookstore.
It was a quick dinner after we watch the movie Dark Night. A tribute to Heath Ledger. He portrays the character Joker well indeed. It's a loss to the entertainment industry that he left us so early. I like the movie and Christian Bale is sooo GOOD LOOKING!!

Among those that we ordered were

Green Tea Soba

Soba with Kara-age

I love the cold soba with deep fried chicken chop. Yummy.....and one thing important to stress here. The service in The Gardens is way so much better than the one in 1-U. Well you know. It's in KL and not PJ. i guess my friend's claim is proven right? you judge it!

unrelated post:
i have been watching the news closely these days. on the daily free newspaper thesun, online via thestar and nst. i began to realise one thing. im quite sure a lot of you will be aware that recently there was a big hoo haa on anwar's political comeback and the sodomy case. history repeating? let the people judge it. then the Permatang Pauh by-election after Datin Wan Azizah resigned and make way for Anwar.

and what did everyone else forgot? try to think deeply guys....

there are so little coverage on our National Day celebrations this year. We are now in the Merdeka month. I can be very sure that last year it was so much merrier and so much more mentioned in the press.

today's paper? election, next PM, oil hike, inflation and etc you name it.
lucky i've seen some coverage of the merdeka already as we move closer to the 31st of August.

mentioning the above don't make me more patriotic, do get me right. this is just to make a press highlight in today's realistic world. so people time to fly your flags for Bolehland!!.

Krispy Kreme is coming to MALAYSIA!!!!! BCorp is bringing them to Malaysia early next year. Yay!!!!!! i get to have my hands on Devil's Food and the Cinnamon Apple Filled Doughnuts. I've already told so many people Krispy Kreme is so much better than Big Apple and Missy Donuts. You gotta try them when KK hit the streets next year.

have you watched the Olympics opening ceremony Beijing 2008? i have not. because i went to Kajang for Satay. My colleague told me it was really fantastic and greatly done. Looking at the amount of people in all their performances it's like telling the world China is making it's presence felt.
and it came to my surprise to know that some of the fireworks during the opening ceremony was fake. and the little kid who were singing wasn't singing. her lips were synching the song sang by another kid from the backstage. well this is acceptable to me but how to fake the fireworks wor?
and i read from the papers yesterday that some shots from the opening ceremony that we were watching isn't live and they were pre recorded due to the quality of air in Beijing. *puzzled* how is this possible wor?

Zanmai & theobroma

it's been long since my last blog eh..

so you enjoyed reading my last post? that was beautiful isn't it. at least i think it is. hee hee and now you are back for more i'm sure.

a lot had happened in the past 3 weeks. fell sick twice a month. watched a few movies. got pissed off quite a bit, ate plenty of fattening food last weekend and can't imagine how much protein i gobbled.

We went to 1-U for dinner at Sushi Zanmai a few weeks ago courtesy of tneh (a friend's name with no silent n, just pronounced it as t-neh) from his overdue bonus payout. guess i was too indulged with the food and i only took a few snapshots.

Stamina Roll

Salmon and Roe Sushi

The Squid

The service was HORRIBLE. The serve you the food..mumbled the name of the dish and TURNED AWAY rudely. A few times when the dish arrived we wanted to request something and they turned away and of course when we finished the sentence they are gone.
urrgh...HORRIGIBLE!! what kinda customer service is that? Apparently those ppl from PJ are like that. stuck up, rude and they don't care. Well don't quote me. i quote someone too...

I'm a Penangite and famous for "good" drivers *wink*

After Sushi Zanmai, we went for dessert at theobroma the chocolate.

They ordered drinks one each and i ordered the Belgian Waffle. *too much ocha from Sushi Zanmai*
Belgian Waffle

Chocolate Affair

Snow White

Ms Coco Frappe

A word of advice from me:

If you feel like having fondue please go to Haagen Daz's.

If you feel like having coffee, Dome instead.

Because we don't have Max Brenner's in M'sia. The best alternative option is those that i've just mentioned.

theobroma did not impress us and did not meet our expectations. I bet those ppl who had Max Brenner's will agree with me.
